The LuLu is Alabama's newest artificial reef. It has 3 deck levels: the top of the ship is right at 60 feet, the main deck level at the top of the cargo hold is right at 95 feet, and then the sand bottom is about 112-115 feet. "Everything is within recreational limits," says Meyers. "There are multi-level possibilities, easy penetration and lots of wide open spaces, in addition to the nooks and crannies for creatures to hide in.
"It starts at about 60 feet from the top of the wheelhouse. You don’t have to travel much more than 90 feet to be able to see pretty much everything."
"In the same area as the LuLu there are several really nice army tanks that people often spearfish off of," says Ross. There are also hundreds of barges, army tanks from the Vietnam era, oil rigs, and thousands of limestone reef pyramids in the vicinity.
